Counsellor and Art Therapist, Hons. in Psychology (clinical emphasis)
I am a counsellor (MNZAC), an Art Therapist (MA from overseas) and have an Hons Degree in Psychology – Clinical emphasis, from the University of Auckland.
I am also an artist, a writer and a travel journalist.
I have had many years of experience both in NZ and overseas – including working with drug addicts, problem gambling and Mental Health clients.
I have initiated and run Art Therapy groups at Raeburn House and other places around Auckland for a few years.
I work with you as a person, working with your personal story and with what you need in a given moment to gain insight and understanding and feel better in yourself. My focus is on helping you to normalise and manage your stress. My biggest passion is to change the way we look at mental distress – by relating to it as mental experience – rather than mental illness. When the pieces of your story fall into place, you become stronger.
As I am trained in both verbal and non-verbal therapies I bring with me a “suitcase” of therapeutic tools and modalities. These range from Assessment, CBT and Motivational Interviewing to Mindfulness, Sand-Tray and Art Therapy. I have also had some training in specific modules such as IDT (Interactive Drawing Therapy), IFT (Insight Focus Therapy), EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique), Compassion Therapy, TRE (Tension and Trauma Release Exercises) and EAGALA (Equine Assisted Growth and Learning therapy). I mostly work with adults and young people.
