Life sometimes presents challenging situations and over time, it can become hard to recognise and then break out of vicious cycles, unhelpful thinking styles, and limiting behavioural patterns. This can result in a sense of being stuck or overwhelmed, and at these times, it is useful to seek professional support. For others, seeking support may arise from a desire to focus on a particular part of life, and obtain a non-biased perspective on a problem in order to maximize a sense of wellbeing.
No matter your circumstances, my priority is to offer a professional and confidential service that offers a warm, safe, and supportive therapeutic relationship. I have a passion for providing evidence based psychological interventions, and endeavor to work collaboratively with my clients to gain an in depth understanding of their difficulties which informs our plan and approach. Therapy may involve reviewing and evaluating what’s working, what’s not working, and identifying obstacles for change. It may also include learning new strategies or modifying old strategies, and experimenting with these both in treatment and within daily life, to test out their efficacy and whether they promote change and improved quality of life.
I am a qualified Cognitive Behavioural Therapist [CBT] having completed my Post Graduate Diploma with Distinction through Massey University, as well as being a Registered Social Worker with the Social Workers Registration Board [SWRB]. Alongside private practice, I am also employed by Auckland District Health Board where I have worked for a number of years. I have been primarily based in community treatment teams where my role has been to provide mental health assessments and treatment, to both adolescents and adults with moderate to severe presentations.
My areas of expertise include working with adolescents, adults, and families presenting with a variety of difficulties including anxiety disorders (eg. OCD, social anxiety, panic attacks), depression, eating disorders, sleep difficulties, emotion regulation problems, self-esteem, general stress, and parenting. I have training in a variety of evidence based treatment models including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy [CBT], Family Based Treatment for Anorexia [FBT], Multi Family Therapy [MFT], and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy [DBT]. I also draw from other theoretical frameworks such as Mindfulness and Family Systems Theory.
